Refined poster towards final

so I had conversation with my tutor and she said 

putting image toward the edge works better.

1.I realized on the previous poster my font was on the brown section 

therefore it was hard to read, so i moved the text on to the blank space on top and bottom.

2. I've simplified the quotation.

Instead of saying 'but what they say isn't always true don't vote' 

I added question in the poster 'Fiction of Fact?'

then I changed 'never trust wolf in sheep's clothing'

into 'make you choice carefully'

Making audience to think and choose for themselves.

Tutor said I could criticize on facts but because voting is known to be good

it's best not to say it is bad but instead make them have their own choice.

My poster includes 3 symbols (kiwi-New zealanders,wolf-politician/bad person,beehive)

which says lot of things to the audience 

therefore by adding a sarcasm and a question into the poster I don't have to comment directly on the page.

Realize difference? 

I've changed the font into -century school- 

which is similar to the font (baskerville old face).

As a poster I thought it would be better if audience could read the font more clearly

but i never wanted to change my font bold because it might ruin the concept+illustrations that I've drawn.

I've chosen this font in order to get more bolder.

Then I made the edges clean for the print out.

Better try other layouts as well before it gets to printer.

so this is the tagline that I came up with 

I've changed contrast into brown to make it look warm and friendly

but the tagline supports my idea for con.

+also added basement for wolf to stand on.

By making outside of the page darker and the inner page lighter I created some kind of atmosphere for my characters.

Than I started to draw sheep skin on the wolf

because my tagline says never trust wolf in sheep's clothing.

This poster is getting somewhere..

I should probably wait to hear from others in tomorrows interim.

What's not working

1. Tagline is okay but the wolf in the poster doesn't have sheep skin on.

2. Why have white frame?, because in old days they could never print in white.

My reference is old story book..so why would I use white frame?

3. The images have different color tones therefore it doesn't look like one scene

but it looks like a collage at the moment.  

_Maybe make a basement for wolf to stand on.

_Think about tagline more.

_Rather than having a frame maybe dodge the page to make a contrast.

I've got feedback.

Color posters look hazardous and it is not meant to be.  

1. The composition are a bit awkward I have to make it look friendly as possible.

2. It might be good to have a border because it is a poster.

3. Work on taglines more

4. Contrast it so it pops out.

Go back to my ORIGINAL idea!

I've tried to change scales and layouts.

1.

so I have started off fixing some things that they critiqued about in last class.

I personally decided to stick with using a brown Background for my classic storybook concept.

but developing further on..I reduced most of the texts. (because it is a poster not a booklet design).

Somehow I though this was off balanced.

I tried to balance it by scaling up the size of the wolf but it didn't quite work.

so basically technique that i used for my poster is Image&text.

When audience see this poster they could think it is just one of Aesop's fable story book cover but when they read the text they could incorporate the meaning.

Wolf is known to be two faced and they are known to be bad in a storybook

and kiwi represents Newzealanders therefore it is obvious something bad is going to happen to kiwi.

Beehive just backs up that my poster is about politics/governments/voting.

This is similar but i got rid of the black box to balance it out.

Then i tried to use font more

I had the v(thick box) paralleled with beehive in order to link the idea of voting system and parliament.

I used scale to contrast that the wolf is big and bad 

but kiwis are small and weak.

All the Kiwis know that the wolf is lying and the system is unfair but they do not say it out loud.

By changing opacity of 'they are liars..' fonts i get the spooky feeling.

 COLOR THEORY

The reason why i used black is to avoid bright powerful colors because most of it has positive meaning.

But unlike other colors black means it is powerful and mysterious. Which is like governments in some ways. There are other meanings which backs up my color theory as well.

Brown is the color of dependence and it is wise&confident color.

The Wolf(politicians in this case) disguises that they are wise and confident creature

but actually they are dangerous.

By changing a scale i get the feeling of dictatorship.

I tried to balance this by having font in a beehive shape upside down.

They are looking away each other showing that kiwi doesn't really trust the wolf.

so this is the first poster

based on the idea of What politicians say is like a fiction.

I quite liked this layout and i will have to explore more on layout and scale wise.

THINGS THAT I HAVE BEEN CRITIQUED BY CLASSMATES.

1. It reminds them of 1940 art Deco,border is in Retro style.

2. Therefore there is an age difference

3. Gap is too wide between image & text.

4. "What juicy tender result they'll make!, It i make them vote".

5. I missed out the between He chased (the) two kiwis

Fix IT!

+It will be good to get rid of whole story and put the message into obvious line.

ex) Politicians are liar

Just make it obvious + make image bigger center it!

so I've been drawing main characters for my story book concept poster.

I tried to draw actual kiwi first to see how it looks like.

Then i simplified it and then stylized it into Aesop's fable style

As i look at the images of the fables i realized they are quite detailed and also high contrasted.

I stylized them standing up to make them look more like human than the actual animal.

I did the same for the wolf as well.

I tried to make it look nice and calm in order to reflect wolf as a politician 

who fakes themselves outside but they are bad inside.

My poster concept is based on a classic story book (Aesop's fable)

From here on I've been looking on the story frames and layouts.

I quite liked the idea(Alice in the wonderland) of putting image on top of letters.

so it looks like a print but it is actually in storybook format.

I do not know which format i will use for my poster, I'll have to explore more.

i'm going to use making familiar unfamiliar technique 

in order to add a twist in my message.

Recently I have been working on my poster design in bigger format..

I personally liked two ideas

voting is a stair/step/bridge to no where.

and

What politicians say is like a fiction.

To be honest i was more confident on the idea of stairs made out of ballot paper more 

because i though the visual element would be more stronger.

Matt said he likes the idea for both so i could sway in whatever way i want to i guess..

as i include colour and the contrast more into the image i decided to put my font over the image.

butterfly is a symbol for freedom and happiness.

If i used bat it could look more like if something bad is going to happen to the stair. 

If i wanted to use this idea i had to make steps more accurate and stable on top but show it crumbles apart in the bottom.

At the moment focus is at the second half of the page

because of the colour and the heaviness of the layout.

this poster was designed to be more about people not knowing what politician to choose

because they all look the same 

but i definitely like the idea of story book illustration concept (ex. Aesop's fable)

I will have to work on this idea.

This is what we did in class ages ago..

I tried to mix idea of con and pro in order to get my brain working 

In my own time I thought about both pro/con ideas so i could choose which one i want to do.

Most of the strong idea that i had was pro.

I had some ideas on cons on this page but the only good idea that i had was voting is a bridge to no where.

:Making a bridge out of ballot paper so it is unstable and crumbles later on. 

Then i got into details and generated some ideas.

the message that i tried to come across on this page was that they are forcing us to vote but nothing changes so it doesn't worth anything.

The other idea that i talked about with Matt and Phoebe is 

:what politicians say is like a fiction.

This idea was mostly based on the fact that we as student don't have much information about politicians because majority doesn't watch tv, 

they rather look at facebook or messengers.

I tried to use minimalism for ideas on top.

Then i played around with my strongest idea voting is a bridge to no where

because it will break after a while.

In this page i tried to use expressionism by using scribbles and lines.

These two are more illustrative but i tried to explore my idea more on this point.
